Dear Parent,

Please allow us just a moment to introduce Vista Academy to you and your family. Vista is a public school district of 22 campuses located in every major area of Texas. We are designed to give students the opportunity to learn more, deepen their understanding of academic concepts, and make learning experiences more meaningful.

Our 2 newest campuses are located in Carrollton at 1615 W. Beltline (west of 35E), and at 800 Point Vista in Hickory Creek (south of Swisher Road). These two campuses will be opening in August and are currently registering for the Fall semester. These campuses are providing education for Kindergarten – Second Grade.

We believe in creating a personalized environment for the student. There are three basic components of this environment:

1. Professional Learning Community
The PLC concept is an established, research-based school design currently being implemented on most successful campuses. The term is used by many districts but, on close examination, we find that the dimensions of PLC are not actually being utilized. PLC has clearly defined dimensions of shared leadership, collective learning, and a focus on the learning process that takes responsibility for every child. The primary question on a PLC campus is not the traditional “Have we taught everything?” Rather, the question is “Have our students learned everything we’ve taught?” As districts begin to understand the importance of the PLC environment, they attempt to convert schools to this environment. However, Vista Academies are created from the start to be Professional Learning Communities.

2. Horizontal Learning Paths
The methodology developed and used at Vista strives to create independent learners. As your child’s world becomes increasingly complex, the traditional approach may not be adequate to train students to become independent in their learning process. Horizontal Learning Paths (created by our staff) blend the structural framework of education with independent learning components integrated to provide students with optimum opportunity to develop into learners who will continue to progress and be successful in later years.

3. Learning Styles
Vista is recognized as a certified international learning style system through the International Learning Style Network based out of St. John’s University in New York. Our executive staff sits on the Board of the ILSN and is very involved in promoting the use of learning styles in education. Your child will have their unique learning style diagnosed. This information will be used to help you as a parent develop more productive environments for learning at home and assist you as you know how your child learns best. The information will also be used to develop specific components for your child on the Vista campus.

Vista Academy is accredited with the state of Texas as a public school designed to be innovative. Our goal is to provide effective, research-based education for students. Our campuses are small by design, which gives us a private school atmosphere where parents and staff can work together for each child. However, though it may seem we are a small private school, we are established public schools of choice. This also means there is no tuition for students.

Not only are we accredited with the state of Texas, we have also achieved accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as one of the first 200 districts in the nation to be awarded their system accreditation. This accrediting agency is the largest in our nation. SACS reviews districts and only accredits those who have met their strict standards of quality.

Vista believes in working with parents, designed to be a “community” school. Our community is you. We believe in working with you for the good of each child walking through our doors.

We believe in what we are doing at Vista Academy. We would love an opportunity to speak with you personally about the opportunity to provide a research-based, innovative education for your child. We encourage you to give us a call at (972) 242-5864 or visit our website at www.vista-academies.com for information. Our spaces are limited so if you are interested, please contact us soon. Know that we stand ready to “do what it takes” for your child.
Sincerely,

Alan Wimberley
